Yerbabruja is a plant that flourishes in the harshest conditions and survives for a better tomorrow with just a sunlight of hope. Our mission at Yerbabruja is to connect community, art, and education to create a positive impact in the lives of the people we connect with through our work!
Join us as we celebrate Indigenous People's Day, honoring the cultures and histories of Native American people, and all indigenous communities around the world during the Kick-Off Event of our season-long NEA Big Read Long Island program on Monday, October 11, 2021, Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
Our chosen book is "An American Sunrise" by the U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo, a member of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. The event will center around reflecting on our indigenous roots and the stories that strengthened our communities. It will consist of an art show honoring indigenous peoples, an introduction to the NEA Big Read Long Island program and its partners, and a reading from and conversation about "An American Sunrise" followed by an Open Mic.
We look forward to sharing this experience with you!
It is always hard to find the words in how we can best express our gratitude for the truly humbling way you have supported us during this pandemic. You helped artists and our team accomplish some remarkable achievements this past year with programming and online community building. We couldn’t leave 2020 without expressing our thanks to you our sponsors, contributors, and volunteers!
Stay tuned for upcoming events and programs in 2021!
